Room-side surface
Moisture on the indoor face can occur when humid indoor air meets a surface below its dew point. Air-conditioning, room moisture generation, air movement and surface temperature all contribute. Corners and frame edges may be cooler than the centre of the pane.
Record indoor conditions, time of day and whether curtains or furniture restrict air movement. Dry the area and monitor it; persistent moisture can affect adjacent finishes.
Exterior surface
Outdoor dew can form on an exterior pane under certain combinations of sky exposure, temperature and humidity. Its presence does not by itself identify a window defect. Note whether it clears as conditions change.
Salt or mineral deposits left after evaporation should be cleaned with a compatible method so they do not build up on glass or finishes.
Between panes
Moisture or haze inside a sealed insulating glass cavity is different because the cavity is not accessible for normal cleaning. Confirm that the mark is truly between panes rather than a surface film or reflection, then record the glass identification and installation history.
Assessment should consider the insulating glass unit and its edge seals. Replacement decisions depend on the exact system and condition.
A simple evidence log
- Photograph the whole window and close detail.
- Mark which surface is wet.
- Record date, time and weather.
- Note air-conditioning and room activity.
- Check whether the condition clears.
This evidence is more useful than describing a window simply as “foggy.” Water entering from rain or cleaning is a separate investigation from condensation.
